Tom Smallbone promoted to Head of Residential Development

UK property developer Godwin Developments has appointed Tom Smallbone to the position of Head of Residential Development and tasked him with leading the company’s expansion plans in the sector nationwide.

Tom’s remit will include driving growth across the business’ pipeline of residential acquisitions, including both Build-to-Rent and affordable homes. A key area of focus for him will be identifying and securing additional opportunities for multi-family and single-family BTR developments across Tier 1 urban locations – such as London, Birmingham and Bristol – as well as suburban land sites in the South East, the Home Counties, the former OxCam Arc and the Midlands.

In his new role, he will be working closely with Godwin’s land and other in-house teams while also managing a number of external property partners, consultants and landowners.

With more than 5 years of experience in property development, Tom has proven and in-depth knowledge in the living sector. Prior to joining Godwin, he worked as a project manager across the hotel and student accommodation sectors and before this was a rugby premiership professional.

Tom joined Godwin Developments in March 2020 as a Land Manager and was promoted to the position of Associate Director in December 2020. He is based in Godwin Developments’ central London office where he reports to Managing Director Matt Chandler.

Matt Chandler, Managing Director of Godwin Developments, commented: “Godwin Developments has seen tremendous growth in the residential sector over the past year – with Tom playing a significant part in this. We are therefore pleased to announce his promotion to Head of Residential Development which is a testament to his hard work and outstanding results. We are confident that through his leadership, ambition and energetic approach we will be able to create an even stronger platform of residential schemes across our key target locations and market sectors.”

Tom Smallbone, Head of Residential Development at Godwin Developments, said: “I am thrilled to be appointed as Head of Residential Development at Godwin Developments at a time where demand for BTR and affordable homes is growing exponentially. I have always had a passion for real estate and with many new projects underway at Godwin, I am looking forward to continuing to work closely with the team and external partners to build our business’ momentum in the residential sector.”

Godwin Developments has a fast-growing nationwide portfolio, including over 3,000 residential units nationwide some of which are set to begin construction in the second half of 2022. The business operates across the BTR sector covering both multifamily and single-family housing as well as affordable homes with a number of consented residential developments covering Nottingham, Doncaster, Cambridgeshire, Milton Keynes and Derby, and many more in the pipeline.
