Work Completes On New Birmingham Lidl Store

Lidl, Kings Heath

Construction work on a new Lidl store in Kings Heath, Birmingham, led by the multi-sector property developer, Godwin Developments, was completed and handed over in early February 2020.

Godwin Developments has signed a 25-year deal on just under a 23,000 sq. ft supermarket, which is expected to create 40 jobs in the local community when it opens in May 2020.

The Lidl store – that was constructed by multidisciplinary contractor Winvic – features an attractive, single storey unit with a glazed frontage, an in-store bakery and a car park with capacity for 120 spaces. The supermarket has been built on the former Western Power Distribution Depot on Warstock Road next to the Esso garage on Alcester Road South. As part of the development, a new pedestrian access point was also created to provide a direct route to the store from Warstock Road.

Matt Chandler, associate director at Godwin Developments said: “We are very excited to have completed on the Kings Heath site. As well as bringing a brand-new retail site to the area, we also expect to see the project reinvigorate the old and disused facility, by replacing it with a bright and welcoming retail store. This will, in turn, spark further development and regeneration in the surrounding area of the city.”

“This project is exciting for Godwin Developments as it further strengthens our existing national retail portfolio. We would like to thank the team who worked on the development and we look forward to seeing the impact the new store has on the surrounding area, both in terms of the local economy and making life more convenient for those who live in the community.”

The completion of the Kings Heath site is the latest project to be added to the Godwin Developments portfolio which already contains a diverse range of commercial, residential, and mixed-use property assets in key regional locations.
