Godwin promotes leadership team to drive growth across core residential, commercial and industrial & logistics sectors

  • Managing directors to report directly to the board to streamline business decision-making

UK property business Godwin Developments has promoted development directors Marcus Phayer, Simon Handslip and Simon Boreham to Divisional Managing Directors with a remit to expand the company’s portfolio and nationwide market share in the industrial & logistics, commercial and residential sectors respectively.

The promotions reflect the growth in both internal resources and pipeline capabilities of the business and will facilitate a more nimble and agile response in a fast-changing market. As heads of their divisions, the new managing directors will report directly to the Board and ensure better oversight of internal structures and resources. Continuing to be based out of Godwin’s two main offices in Birmingham and Mayfair in London, they will be supported by the company’s expert planning, delivery, finance, and marketing and communications functions.

During his time with Godwin, Marcus Phayer has grown the business’ industrial and logistics pipeline to 3.6 million sq ft with an estimated GDV of £850 million. His division focuses on delivering best-in-class development opportunities with strong ESG credentials. Moving forward, it will continue to target a mix of large-scale strategic land promotions, sites with outline planning for speculative development, and the repositioning of well-located last-mile sites that have the potential for refurbishment or redevelopment.

Leading the commercial team at Godwin Developments, Simon Handslip has provided strong direction and brought a significant impetus to deal and operator flow. The division currently has 15 live projects with over 20 national occupiers including brands such as Lidl, McDonald’s, Burger King, Greggs, Loungers, Starbucks and Costa Coffee. Godwin’s commercial division will continue to specialise in the fast-growing roadside retail sector which includes mixed-use developments providing F&B, retail, trade and EV charging.

With over 20 years of previous experience in property development, Simon Boreham will lead Godwin’s residential division. He will oversee its nationwide portfolio which exceeds 4,200 residential units valued at £700 million. This part of the business will continue to pursue growing Godwin’s development pipeline across a range of residential asset classes including build-to-rent and purpose-built student housing, in both urban and suburban locations.

Stuart Pratt, Co-Founder and Board member of Godwin Developments, said: “Creating a new tier of managing directors, with direct access to the Board, will enable us to make faster and more effective decisions within the business. With this calibre of talent within our leadership and experienced in-house team, Godwin is well placed to grow our market share across our core industrial and logistics, commercial, and residential sectors.”
